Upchuck 50K-Grim's Perspective

Upchuck 50K- Grim’s PerspectiveNovember 19, 2011 I have run this race every year and each time there is a different feel to the event. This year was no exception. The allotted number of race participants is strictly limited and registration fills quickly, so it was a big surprise this year when nearly 20% of the field who had registered failed to show up at the race start. I believe that it was a direct consequence of being fearful that the “Grim Sweeper”* would catch them and thus end their…See More

Newbie Running Buddies?

Hi gang-I am an old roadie triathlete recovering from raising-a-toddler syndrome and looking to get into trail running.  Missing my running buddies back in DC, so looking for some folks to run Signal and/or near Downtown.  Baby steps please - I've been out of the game for a while so will need to start slow and short.  Let me know if this is you (recovering from an injury maybe?) or a friend of yours (looking to start out also?) also looking to meet up for runs.  After work time or weekends all…See More

Race Report-Duncan Ridge 30K/50K

Duncan Ridge 30K & 50K

November 19, 2011

I originally had no intentions of running in this inaugural event. A friend sustained an injury shortly before the race and suggested I use the vacated slot. I off-handedly told another friend I would take it if the Race Director would let me in- knowing that it’s highly unusual for this to happen. As luck would have it, a few emails among…

Trail Running-PORN*

                                                                        Pointers On Running Nicely

I have been actively involved with competitive sports since the age of 11 (or so) when I first swam in a youth competitive swim program. Swimming has remained a mainstay for the balance of my life but along the way I have added other… Continue

Lookout 50 race report

December 18 was the Lookout 50 mile trail race. Although I live in Chattanooga, I had never done this home town race. I am familiar with most of the course because we run on the trails frequently, but the portion of the race that goes through Lula Lake to Nickajack was new to me. When the alarm clock went off on Saturday morning, I was less than enthusiastic about getting up. I am not an early morning person but I usually feel a bit more perky on race mornings than I did. For whatever reason,… Continue
