Run in the Boonies

Chattanooga, TN

Hello, I'm new. I have volunteered to help with the upchuck.

I am new to trail running. I have been running for around 3 years. I just ran a half marathon in September and am trying to transition from the road to the trail. I am surprised at the effort. I think my times have practically doubled, and it seems I'm walking before I've put in a mile.

I moved to the area from NW Ohio around 15 months ago (there are no wilderness areas up there) and I love it here.

i am new to trail running too. and was woundering how often you run on trails and how far do you go.. and where are you running at... i am looking for some new trails to run on..

thanks brian higdon...
Brian, I am only running on a trail once a week or so. The furthest I've gone on the trail so far is around 4.5 miles. Right now it seems more like a fast hike than a run, but hey, I've got to start somewhere. There is a wilderness area behind the town that I live in and I have been running there. I know there are those that run on different parts of the Cumberland trail. The possum creek and rock creek sections are beautiful and should be fun. I believe the upchuck will be covering these sections of the trail.
What's keeping you from running fast exactly? Is it the technical aspects or just the "newness" of it?

both, I think. It is more of a work out, uses different muscles and I have to pay quite a bit more attention to where I am stepping. I'm having fun though and I'm in no hurry.
Shorter strides, better core strength and shoes that you trust are keys.
