This is my biggest problem in the winter. I use Mtn Hardwear heavyweight powerstretch gloves right now. I usually have some chemical handwarmers stuffed in there during longer runs and end up taking my fingers out and curling them up in a fist to keep them toast. I hear mittens can be a good alternative - skin on skin keeps them warmer... but, I don't notice many runners using them.
I did pick some Marmot Randonnee mittens at R/C (last ones in my size), but want to hear from you all what might work. I am getting geared up for Mt Mitchell and want to be prepared for a long, cold day. thanks!
I wear Moutain Hardware power stretch and other similar, cheaper stuff too. They normally do me fine as long as I'm moving. If it's that bad, although made for cycling, you might try some of the lobster claw or split finger type stuff. Since they're made for cycling I would assume they wouldn't be too bulky and would have reasonable dexterity. i'm thinking you'll want some dexterity for gel packets, etc. Pearl Izumi has the Inferno and Lobster Claw, Craft has a split finger glove too. There are probably lots of others.' I believe you're thinking in the right direction. I had a similar problem with snowboarding. Nothing worked til I got away from the five finger design. I still use my snowboarding mittens on really cold hikes, but they would probably roast my hands on a run.
