SORBA has done an amazing job building these trails, so please respect this temporary closure, due to the freeze/thaw cycle. There's lots of snow up there now melting, so once the ground isn't supersaturated and some repair work is done, they'll be reopened.
After checking trail conditions earlier today, we have made the decision to open the majority of trails.
There are still a few areas that will remain closed due while they are still drying out. Please respect the partial closures.
If we get additional rain we may have to close the trails again for a short period of time. In the event of rain, we suggest everyone avoid riding at Raccoon Mountain for a 24-hour period of time.
Here is the news that everyone has been waiting for.... All trails on Raccoon Mountain are officially OPENED, as the subsurface has fully thawed. Barring another snowstorm and subzero temps, users are expected to police themselves and avoid the trials when wet or muddy. I would note the forecast is predicting rain 8 out of the next 10 days. If we get more than a few sprinkles please wait 12 hours before riding the trails. If we get a hard rain, please wait for 24 hours before riding the trials. Use your best judgment.

*** On a side note the Chattanooga Trek Store is hosting their Spring
Classic Event on March 16, 2010. The events will include a bike demo
on RM in the afternoon, featuring their full line of mountain and road
bikes. This will be followed up with a social event with free beer at
their shop later that night. It is my understanding that attendees
will be given a free small size cup to drink the beer, however for a
$10 donation you can get a pint glass. All proceeds will go to the
SORBA-Chattanooga trail fund to help construct and maintain trail in
the greater Chattanooga area. (Thanks Trek Store!). The Trek Store
has also invited us to have a table with trail volunteer and
membership information. See the post to our site for more detail: http://sorbachattanooga.org/wordpress/?p=1050.
