Run in the Boonies

Chattanooga, TN

Who is Wild Trails? Where does Boonies fit in? An official statement -

Hello Everyone,

There have been some questions around this issue so I wanted to issue a statement of explanation.  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

Since 2007 the Wilderness Trail Running Association, a.k.a., “The Boonies” has been committed to promoting the sport of trail running, expanding and improving trails in Chattanooga and providing great running events.  In late 2009 we began to take our organization through a strategic planning process and realized the work we were doing on trails was benefiting more than just trail runners but all users of trails.  We decided it was in our best interest as an organization and in the best interest of the community we are trying to impact to expand our mission to accommodate multiple user groups.  In February 2010 we officially received our 501 (c)(3) status and in late May the board voted on an expanded mission and  a new identity and name, Wild Trails, which we feel better communicates the mission and scope of our organization.

The mission of Wild Trails is to promote the use, protection and expansion of trails in greater Chattanooga.  We provide resources, education and events to help others enjoy and take part in preserving trails in our region.

Wild Trails will continue to organize the Rock/Creek Trail Series in addition to other new initiatives.  We are excited about our expanded mission and direction and would ask that you would join us in our excitement.  In August we will launch our new website – http://www.wildtrails.org – and I think everyone will be thrilled to find out some of the things we have up our sleeve.

Our plan is to continue to maintain http://www.runintheboonies.org as a gathering place for the trail running community in Chattanooga.  The Boonies will serve as a model for the type of partnerships we would hope to establish as Wild Trails works to posture itself as a gathering place for the outdoor community here in Chattanooga.

Thanks,
