Rock/Creek Scenic City Trail Marathon

Saturday, May 22nd was a great day for a race. The skies were clear and the starting temperature was in the upper 60's low 70's. There was quite a crowd at the start also. I heard the announcer say that this year had twice as many runners as the previous year.I had no idea what to expect as I've never run the trails and hadn't competed against any of these guys before. All I know was that Matt Sims had run a 3:11 on it before, and I wanted to beat that time. I actually wanted to run a sub-3 on…See More

Trail Shoe Comparison

Thought I'd offer up my thoughts a some trail shoes I've been testing over the past month or so. I have between 50 and 300 miles on each pair. They below are my opinions. They are:1. Montrail - Mountain Masochist2. Brooks - Cascadia 53. Northface - Single Track4. Salomon - XT WingsMontrail Mountain Masochist - RATING: 4.5 of 5.This shoe has a well designed toe-box. It is a tad on the heavy side though I think this is Montrail's lightest trail shoe. The tread is sturdy, but there is almost too…See More

You guys do an incredible job. Thanks as usual. Also... 1:12:30 wasn't a record. No body told me. I guess I just have to get it next year. :)

Rock/Creek River Gorge Race 10.2

The morning started out pretty brisk at 37 degrees, but the skies were blue and the sun was rising. The cold didn't seen to deter anyone. In fact, parking extended quite a ways down the Prentice Cooper Access road as turnout pushed almost to 400 runners. The trails were beautiful this morning - clean and clear. At 8:30am the 10.2 mile race began. There were the usual milers, but in a way that's just smart. Once one gets on the single track it can be troublesome to pass. This year with the rain…See More

Cumberland Trail Winter Hike

Monday morning brought blue skies and sunshine. So after a morning run and weights I packed some food and grabbed the closest thing I own to hiking boots: Salomon XT Wings. Turns out, these shoes make excellent hiking shoes. They are light weight, breathable, but warm. They refuse to let water in even though I hiked snow and had 6 or 7 stream crossings.Like many, I parked along hwy 27 and walked up to the trail entrance. Someone else had beaten me to the trails this morning judging from the…See More
