Run in the Boonies

Chattanooga, TN

Not sure if fellow Boonie runners are aware of the new trails inside ES Park. That is the park between VW and Ooltewah, about 7000 acres of public land. SORBA is working daily on the trail construction and needs help. The park will open on 10/11/2010, or so I am told. We will then have trails on this side of town. No more schlepping over to Raccoon and Lookout for a trail run. SORBA is glad to have runners potentially using the trail and I'm thankful mountain bikers keep the trail smooth and wide!!!!

Yeah, I've been running those powers lines for several years now. I just hope they put some sort of pedestrian/peddle bike only entrance on my side of the park. It would be rediculous to have to drive to the other side of the park just to get in when I can walk/run to it (~1/2 mile from the house).

Thanks for the update.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. The entrance is on the first traffic circle on Volkswagen Drive. You can see the new visitor's center from the traffic circle. The park still has not opened, I spoke with a ranger the other day and still no firm date he was aware of, but he told me there are a couple of bow hunts scheduled in December and maybe the county is holding off until then. I'm told it is okay to run/walk the pipeline and powerlines as long as no hunting and atv.

Mike, that's literally in my backyard. I usually leave from the house and just run outside of the park. Is it open yet? I've checked the VW freeway exit for entrance to the park (none yet). Where is entrance to the park being permitted if it's open?

I'm at the North/East end of the park.

thanks for keeping us tuned in to the progress! there is another work day this Saturday, with a cookout to follow. Come work for a few hours, eat, then bring your bike or running shoes to explore the trails! (unfortunately I'm out of town this weekend)

Update on the ES trails, had the chance to run the TNT loop on Wednesday night, cool run, all the twisting and winding through the woods with a couple of whoop-de-doos. In total there will be between 7 and 9 miles of trails right now, but add on the Patrol Road and other paved roads and you got many miles of fun. We are currently working on the beginner trail. Trying the get topo and road maps this week. As stated previously, this park will open soon and will provide some great running for those of us in EB and adjacent areas.
