Red Top Rumble
I highly recommend running
Red Top Rumble in Cartersville, GA, which was held on February 7th . The 11.5 mile trail run was perfectly marked and stocked with great volunteers, food, and prizes. It turned out to be a great run for me as I was 1st female and 19th overall out of 258 runners, with a time of 1:25:49. The race director, Jaydene Reardon, paid attention to every detail, including tofu at the finish for all of us vegetarian runners and a large amount of raffle prizes so few left empty handed! The trail at Red Top is pretty and rolling so come on out and run with GUTS next year!
I was first place female, which I was very happy about! The race director gave $500 vouchers for first place. I have never won a prize of that value before! It was a great race-so well organized.
For the run, I am sporting my favorite shirt, an
Icebreaker 180 weight merino wool long sleeve. I love the shirts because they keep you warm, but they don't make you cold when you sweat. I might rethink the bright pink in the winter though, because it takes away all privacy when you need use the restroom! I am also wearing Mizuno pants that heat up when you sweat so I didn't feel the cold one bit.
As for footwear, I ran the race in
La Sportiva Wildcats, which have treated me very well. I ran in them straight out of the box for a hundred last year (never wore La Sportiva before that) and they were totally fine. They fit well, are supportive, and don't feel like concrete booties like other shoes I have tried. I think Red Top Rumble went so well because I didn't have to stop at any aid stations because I ran with my
Nathan handheld and
Nathan Sports 10k waist pack. I don't normally race well at short distances, like half marathons, so not having to stop to water saved me much needed time! Overall-it was a great race and I highly recommend it!
ahhh! I am also wearing
Injinji socks!!! I love them and can't believe I forgot to mention them!
Injinji socks have reduced the number of blisters I get during ultras. The toe separation may look different, but it eliminates friction between the toes and blisters between toes are very painful-no one wants those. They come in all sorts of colors- I am wearing what I call, the "dirt" color (taupe) so I don't have to worry about getting them muddy. I also have a fun multicolored striped pair. I always wear Injinjis when I run trails.
