Rock/Creek Race Team Member, Nick Selbo, Runs to Support Haiti and then Places in the Gateway 5k

I ran the Frozen 5k Run for Haiti back in February 6, 2010 at Shackelford Ridge Park in Signal Mtn., TN. I arrived 15 minutes before the gun to find they were still going to accept registration (I often get lost on Signal). I registered, got dressed and ran around for 5 minutes; I wore my Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tee Shirt from the Stump Jump. We all lined up at the start and it began snowing. The snow continued for the entire race on Signal Mountain and stopped the moment we finished, leaving about an inch on my car!

From the beginning, the race is uphill for about 800m to the turn around. I was in the lead after about 400m and stayed in the lead until the end. The course was very hilly and all the same road. Finishing time was an unimpressive 16:56, but this was ok as I was coming off a stress fracture.

Race in Ringold:

The Gateway Bank & Trust CIS 11th Annual 5k Run took place on March 20, 2010.

I placed 2nd with a time of 15:53. I felt very strong. The course was pretty flat and fast. There were not that many turns, but the course markings were not that clear. If it hadn't been for the volunteers and the chase car, we would have been lost. 1st mile was physically easy, 2nd mile I started to breathe harder and legs got heavy by the end of it. A bit after the 2 mile mark Patrick (Brooks Race Team) passed me and kept pace... I didn't slow, he was just able to put more heat on... (he weighs about 120 lbs.) The finish was up hill, and I really felt it in the quads.

I'm happy with this race. My URI wasn't too much of an issue, I puffed on the inhaler twice and coughed up a bunch of crap before hand.
